The Ocean Monument-1

Chapter 1

Swimming was NOT one of Saskia’s abilities. Yet, that doesn’t matter if you play Minecraft. Your character already knows how to run, jump, swim and fight from the moment of spawn—one of the reasons she liked it so much. The power she wielded when she used Creative mode was another reason she spent more time in front of a computer screen than, frankly most other things. At school, she was just this weird, insignificant person, but in her world, she was the very definition of power. The time, instead of her usual Creative world, she clicked’New World’ and set the game mode to survival. ‘Let’s see what world I’ll get this time,’ she said, cracking her fingers. She was a fairly good Survival player, or as she likes to say it, a ’survivalist’. It was a decent spawn—the middle of a small oak forest with an ocean and a clearing with lily of the valleys nearby. A few in-game days passed but Saskia still hadn’t explored the ocean. She knew that without good preparation, a single expedition into the looming, glittering sea could be fatal. ‘I’ll collect materials today, and explore that ocean tomorrow.’ The next day, she reached the shore and…pulled out a spyglass. ’No point going into the ocean when I can explore it up on dry land,’ grumbled Saskia. She clicked a button and her screen zoomed in on the ocean. Coral, fish, ocean monument…wait. Ocean monument? Now she was interested. ‘Sea lanterns make for great lighting, and with the sponges I could dry out the monument into a pre-made mansion…’ she’d made up her mind. She’ll craft lots and lots of doors to create air pockets in the water. Then she’ll go down, harvest sponges, kill a few guardians, then come back next time when she’s ready to dry out the monument. ‘Even so, I will encounter the elder guardian, so I’ll better craft some armour and a stronger sword!’ A few more in-game days later, Saskia had everything she needed. 9 doors, full iron armour, she even had a diamond sword and a spare night vision potion! ’It’s time to go,’ she said shakily. ’No point in delaying any longer.’ Taking a deep breath, she made her character jump into the blue abyss.
